SHOOTINGFour forms of shooting can be enjoyed in the Newton Stewart area, each in its season and subject to the necessary permits:
- Rough shooting or shoots aimed at pheasant or grouse can be organised through local farmers' syndicates and dedicated country sports businesses.
- Wildfowling, particularly for geese on the Wigtown Bay salt marshes, or for duck at various locations, is popular in the winter months (September to Mid-February). Information on permits for wildfowling and punt gunning on the Local Nature Reserve may be obtained from Machars Action, 26, South Main Street, Wigtown. Creeside Salmon and Stalking offers fishing & shooting holidays, as well as smoked salmon and venison from their own smokehouse.
- Clay Pigeon Shooting at Silver Fox Skeet Range overlooking Wigtown Bay near Whithorn.
